(From the manger to the cross, His whole life, death, and resurrection has been for us. So worthy to be called our Savior)

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, may the love and grace of Jesus Christ shine upon you and your family.

Merry Christmas!!!

Quotes of the month

Christ didn’t only come into the world that first Christmas night in Bethlehem, but He wants to come into our lives today, and every day of the year.

Billy Graham

For Christians, Christmas is a celebration of Jesus’ birth, that light has come into the darkness, and as John 1:5 says, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Kin Hubbard

Men are not saved by good works, nor by the free determination of their own will, but by the grace of God through faith.

Saint Augustine

Joy really is a choice. When you wake up. When you walk through the day. When you go to sleep. You’ve got to choose it. You’ve got to choose Him. Joy is Jesus. This world is going to throw a lot of stuff at you, but don’t pay attention. It doesn’t last. Only He does. Choose Him.

Father Cedric Pisegna

They will never keep me from speaking about Jesus, not now, not ever. After I die, they will speak about me speaking about Jesus.

Charles Spurgeon

From the Manger to

the Cross

           by Charles Spurgeon

Never could there be a being more approachable than Christ. Being laid in a manger He proved himself a priest taken from among men, one who has suffered like His brethren, and therefore can sympathize with our weaknesses. Bow the knee and kiss the Son of God; accept Him as your Savior, for He puts Himself into that manger that you may approach him.

Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7 – For unto to us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.

Isaiah 45:22 - Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth. For I am God, and there is no other.

This is a promise of promises. It lies at the foundation of our spiritual life. Salvation comes through turning to look to Him who is “a righteous God and a Savior.” (Isaiah 45:21) How simple is the direction.

“Turn to me.” How reasonable is the requirement. Surely the creature should turn toward the Creator. We have looked elsewhere long enough. It is time to look alone to Him who invites our expectation and promises to give us His salvation.

Only a look. Will we not turn to look at once? We are to bring nothing in ourselves, but to look outward and upward to our Lord on His throne, to where He has gone up from the cross. A look requires no preparation, no vigorous effort. It needs neither wit nor wisdom, wealth nor strength. All that we need is in the Lord our God. If we turn to Him for everything, that everything will be ours, and we will be saved.

Come, far-off ones, look to Him. All the ends of the earth, turn your eyes this way. Men from the furthest regions of the world may see the sun and enjoy His light. In the same way, you who lie in death’s borders at the very gates of hell may by a look receive the light of God, the life of heaven. You may receive the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God, and therefore able to save.

           Oh, the Holidays

               by Frank Paul

As my real father used to say, “Ba humbug.” Oh, yes, the holidays are coming, along with all the stress, the shopping, the crowds, the not so fun family visits; and do all the people you are shopping for really need anything? I would guess not.

When I operated a full-size court reporting firm in downtown Cleveland, I needed to have a couple CPAs on board to handle all the “stuff” that centers around having a fairly large staff, payroll taxes, et cetera. One Christmas party back in the mid ‘90s he and I were sitting down chatting and I was complaining about having to shop for a bunch of people, and I hadn’t even started yet. He asked me, do the people you have to shop for really need anything? And I replied probably not. And he said well, you know who really does need something? The people who are hungry, the ones who could use a pair of warm socks, or maybe even a coat.

He suggested donating to the different groups around town that take care of the needy, who shelter the homeless, who feed the poor; and I thought what a great idea. Then he added, and make sure you get a receipt (the accountant speaking), and take that receipt or just a note from you, put it in a Christmas card, send or give it to the person you were going to buy something for who really didn’t need anything anyway, and tell them a donation has been given to such and such an organization in their name to help others. Thank you. He said no one can possibly be upset with you for not buying a gift or spending money on them when there are so many others who need the basics; and I have been using this method ever since the ‘90s to send money to those in need.

It is a two-fold win: It helps the ones who really need it, and it gets you out of the malls and stress of shopping. I thought what a fantastic idea, feeding people, clothing people, relieving my stress, and letting me concentrate on the real reason for the season, which we all know is Jesus.

Think about that idea this year. No matter where you live, I am sure there are places that help others in need that could use a financial gift. Money well spent, stress reduced, and time saved. Time that you can now spend on reading God’s word, thinking about Jesus, how he was born for us, lived for us, and ultimately died for us. And do not be shy, share Jesus with anyone and everyone you can. You just cannot go wrong with that approach.

New Year’s Resolutions

by Frank Paul

So you say this is the year. This is the year I will stick to my New Year’s resolutions. Well, I wish you luck. From my own personal experience and from talking to many friends, students, and acquaintances over the years, it just does not happen, at least not to any extended extent.

Here’s an idea: Why not let God be your New Year’s resolution? Trust in His plan for your life. He is guiding your life anyway whether you realize it or not. Earnestly give God a chance to fix all those things you attempt to fix on your own, whatever it is you want to change about yourself.

How, you ask? It is much easier than you might imagine. Spend time with God, as in every day. Start your day with first thanking God for waking you up, feeling grateful for another day to live and to help yourself and others. Then ask God to help you lead your life

today. All your decisions, every detail of your life give it over to God. He formed the creations, He created us, He gave His Son to live and die for us. God truly has your best interests in mind. He loves you as a father. He is the Father of the fatherless.

If your normal resolutions involve doing something different each day, whether it is what you eat or how often you exercise, make that different “thing” spending time with our Lord. And He is our Lord, in every sense of our being. The creator who established all of creations does love you. It is written all over the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. God loves you. His Son loves you. Grasp that. Put that idea into your heart. Thank God and Jesus every chance you get throughout the day and night. Lay your life in the palm of the Lord. Nothing bad can possibly come out of that thought process. Feel it. Engage with God. Make that your New Year’s resolution and see where it takes you.
