Quotes of the month
Don’t judge someone else just because they sin differently than you do.
Mark Pothier
How do you know when God is at the center of your life? When God’s at the center, you worship. When He’s not, you worry. Worry is the warning light that God has been shoved to the sideline.
Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life
It is still beyond me that Americans sometimes will act shocked that Middle Easterners can be Christians. It was Jesus of Nazareth, not Jesus of New Jersey. How is this news?

Self-love therefore is no part of morality. Indeed, it is exactly its counterpart. It is the sole antagonist of virtue, leading us constantly by our propensities to self-gratification in violation of our moral duties to others.

Walk with God
by Alistair Begg
And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.”
James 2:23
What does it feel like to walk beside a good friend?
Nobody’s grading how you walk, and neither person is walking in front of or behind the other. Your walking partner isn’t standing off to the side barking orders at you like a drill sergeant. You walk together, talk easily, and head the same direction.
That is what it means to walk with God. Some of us leave Him behind because we’re trying to prove something. Others treat Him like an angry employer, always demanding more from us. But there is a different way, and Abraham finds it: “And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,’ and he was called God’s friend.”
Did you know God calls you His friend? In John 15:15, Jesus said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to You.” You talk easily with a friend and listen as much as you talk, and you go in the same direction together.
I walked out of the theater I got saved in at 9 years old, and for the first time I did not just know about Jesus, I knew Him. But I know Him even better today, decades later, not because I studied harder, but because I have walked with Him longer.
Walking with God is not a task list, but a daily conversation. Tomorrow morning, before you ask God for one thing, ask Him a question instead. Then stay quiet long enough to listen.
You were never meant to prove yourself to God or clock in like He is your boss. You were made to walk beside Him like a friend all the way home.
Prayer: God, I don’t want to just work for You or perform for You. I want to walk with You. Teach me to listen as much as I talk and give me the courage to obey what I hear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Answers on Heaven
by Billy Graham
No matter how much our culture may avoid the subject of death, we know it’s inevitable. This life will come to an end. Whether you’re concerned about where your own life is heading or you’re coping with the loss of a loved one, God’s Word offers truth about eternity. Read my Biblical answers on the promise of Heaven – and see how you can find the peace and hope that comes through the Good News that “the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.
What happens to us in the first minute after we die? Do we enter Heaven immediately, or do our souls go into some kind of a sleep until the end of time?
The Bible doesn’t answer all our questions about Heaven and life after death – and the reason is because our minds are limited and Heaven is far too glorious for us to understand. Someday, all of our questions will be answered – but not yet. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “Now I know in part; then I shall know fully.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
However, the Bible certainly does indicate that when we die, we enter immediately into God’s presence if we belong to Christ. From our earthy point of view, death looks somewhat like sleep – but not from God’s point of view. Paul declared, “We are confident of eternal life, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8. Elsewhere he wrote, “I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.” Philippians 1:23.
Later, we will be given new bodies – bodies that will never age or be subject to death, because they will be like Christ’s resurrected body. As the Bible say, “The dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:52.
Is your hope in Christ? Death is a reality – but so is God’s offer of salvation in Christ. Don’t put off your decision for Him, because you could be called into eternity at any moment – and then it will be too late.
“Someday all the sins and pains and failures of this world will be over, and we will be with Christ forever.”
Billy Graham
When we die, does an angel accompany us into Heaven? I’ve heard this all my life, but is it really true? How do we know?
Yes, the Bible indicates that when a believer dies, the angels will escort them safely into Heaven.
In one of His parables, for example, Jesus told about two very different men. One was a rich man, who lived only for himself and ignored both God and others. The other was a poor beggar who had nothing as far as this world’s goods were concerned, but had faith in God and His promises. When the rich man died, he received what he deserved: a life of misery, separated from God forever. But when the poor man died, the angels accompanied him safely into God’s presence. (You can read this parable in Luke 16:19-31).
Although we may not see them or even be aware of their presence, God’s angels are real, and when we know Christ, we know they are always with us to safeguard us from Satan’s attacks. If they safeguard us now, can’t they also be trusted to safeguard our journey to Heaven? Of course. The Bible says, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14
Never forget, however, that Christ alone is our Savior, and He alone is the one in whom we are to place our faith and trust. We should be grateful for God’s angels, but we are not to worship them or make them (instead of Christ) the center of our faith. Is Christ the center of your faith? Make sure of your commitment to Him. Then put your confidence in God’s promise: “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11.
More quotes from Billy Graham:
Heaven will be glorious most of all because we’ll be in the presence of God and of Jesus Christ.
End your journey well. Don’t waste your life, and don’t be satisfied with anything less than God’s plan.
No matter where we are, God is as close as a prayer.
The will of God will never take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.
Insanity is having no time for God here on earth, and wanting to spend eternity with Him in heaven.
