The Gospel of Thomas - The world is a bridge, pass over it, do not make your home there.
The Christian theologian and author, Jean-Yves Leloup, has what I believe is the best translation of The Gospel of Thomas that is in print. And yes, Thomas did write a gospel, it just did not make “the cut” into the canonical Bible; although I think it should have. With this particular verse, Thomas is urging us not to get too wrapped up in the events of this world and let it consume all our thoughts and time; but to realize that we’re just passing through this world and into the next. In other words, know that we will eventually pass on and hopefully our world will be in heaven, and not hell. If we can come to understand that life’s joys, triumphs, and even tragedies are transient and we are moving on, we can focus more on life with Jesus and how to best be an example of Him, than being overwhelmed with the current events, bad or good, of our present home.
